Attorney Profiles

Mark E. Clements, the founding member of the firm, is a third generation native of Lakeland, Florida. Mark served on the Board of Directors for the Lakeland Yacht and Country Club for eight years and also served as Commodore for the Club. Through his deep roots in the community, Mark has extensive knowledge of resources available to meet our client’ various needs. In 2009 Carol Wallace partnered with Mark and the Elder Law Firm of Clements & Wallace P.L. was born.

Mark Clements is an attorney with over 35 years of experience in the areas of estate planning, wills and trusts, tax planning, probate and guardianship, public benefits and long term care planning. He has extensive experience in helping families plan for the long-term care for a loved one through asset protection. Mark has represented hundreds of Florida seniors in qualifying for Medicaid benefits for long-term care. Mark is certified as an Elder Law Attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation, and is an accredited VA attorney.  Additionally, Mark is a member of the Central Florida Mediation Group, with over 25 years of experience mediating disputes at the Circuit Court level.

Mr. Clements is a third generation native in Lakeland, Florida. He graduated from Florida Southern College with high honors in 1976. He received his J.D. from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University with high honors in 1979. Mark was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1979 and is a member of the Elder Law Section and the Wills, Estates, and Probate Section of the Florida Bar. He is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and a member of the Academy of VA Pension Planners.

Mark is also certified as a Circuit Court Mediator by the Supreme Court of that State of Florida.

Carol Wallace has dedicated her career to serving the legal needs of seniors and their families. Carol practiced many years in Alabama before relocating to Florida in 2008. She has been a certified elder law attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation since 1996. She was the first attorney in Alabama with this distinction.

Carol was a partner in the first law firm in Alabama dedicated to serving the legal needs of seniors and their families. She practiced in Alabama from 1997 to 2009, with offices in Huntsville and Decatur. She is now a partner in the Elder Law Firm of Clements & Wallace, P.L. She practices in the areas of estate planning, wills and trusts, guardianship and probate, and asset protection planning for long-term care.

Carol served on the Board of Directors for the Alzheimer’s Association in Huntsville, Alabama for nine years and on the Board of Directors for the Mid South Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. She is a frequent speaker to senior groups and also to professional associations and attorneys who serve seniors and their families.

Carol holds a B.S.W. from the University of Alabama with a concentration in criminal justice. She received her J.D. from Cumberland School of Law in 1979. She was Director of Legal Counsel for the Elderly, a component of the Clinical Programs at The University of Alabama School of Law from 1987 to 1997. In that position, she taught and supervised second and third year law students in the “hands-on” practice of law, as well as providing direct legal service to seniors.

Carol is a member of the Alabama Bar and the Florida Bar. She was a charter member of the Elder Law Section of the Alabama Bar. She is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, the Elder Law Section and the Real Estate, Property and Probate Section of the Florida Bar.

Since coming to Lakeland Carol has immersed herself in the community.  She is an alumnus of Leadership Lakeland Class XXXIII and is an active member of The Lakeland Rotary Club.  She is currently the Immediate Past President of The Lakeland Rotary Club. 

Keifer M. Exum is an Associate Attorney at the Elder Law Firm of Clements & Wallace, P.L.  He practices in the areas of estate planning, probate administration, guardianship, and long-term care planning with Medicaid.

A native of Mulberry, Florida, Keifer received a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Florida Southern College in Lakeland and his Juris Doctor from Stetson University College of Law.  While at Stetson, he served as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Comparative and International Aging Law and Policy.  He was admitted to the Florida Bar in 2020.

Keifer is a member of the Elder Law Section of the Florida Bar and the Lakeland Bar Association.
