We routinely assist clients in estate planning decisions related to the preparation of a last will and testament and/or trusts. Every family is different and we counsel our clients on the best methods for transfer of their family assets during life or at the time of death.
No estate is too small for proper planning. We are experienced with estate tax planning as well. A complete estate plan is more than just a Will or a trust. Although a Will or a trust is critical to direct the ultimate distribution of their assets, other documents are needed to address issues that often arise during lifetime.
Typically we recommend that our clients execute a pre-need guardian declaration to set out their desire as to whom they wish to have appointed as a guardian should that need arise, a living will and health care surrogate advance directive for medical and death and dying issues, and possibly a durable power of attorney designating an agent to serve the client’s business and financial needs during their lifetime. These documents can often streamline many legal and practical problems and mitigate family controversy.
