Living Wills and Health Care Surrogates

We highly recommend that all of our estate planning clients execute a living will and designation of health care surrogate. This document is an expression of your desires about what type of medical care you would want to receive if you could not speak for yourself.
You can designate someone as your health care surrogate to make medical decisions for you regarding any medical matter (not just terminal illness). Further, you can state in a living will whether you would want to receive life-sustaining treatment and/or artificial feeding and hydration if you are at the end of a terminal illness or permanently unconscious.
